10oz Black Denim
Buy this classic 10 oz denim and discover the versatility for creating stylish and durable garments, which is very important for sustainability. 10oz denim, which is a medium weight, is great for sewing a variety of items. Here are some of my own suggestions from the Shop:
jeans - our beginner friendly offering here is the Thea Trousers by TIlly And The Buttons which has enough features to look and feel like a jean but wonderful Tilly instructions to give you confidence. For something a little bit more advanced with all the jeans features and a porject to get your teeth into then try the Landers by True Bias. With the button closure it is a style that is just beautiful.
jackets - my go to for jackets with this denim would have to be the absolute work horse that is the Logan Shacket by Style Arc. It has so many classic features, and a loose fit style, it really is a make that will come out of your wardrobe every season and be worn.
skirts - the Brumby by Megan Neilson is a wonderful pattern that can take the structure of a medium weight denim but isn't the same classic shape of your typical denim skirt. If you are after a more classic demin skirt look and something with all the details that can keep you working hard, try the Style Arc Tommie Denim Skirt which is a longer length skirt with the slit up the front, bang on trend at the moment but also the classic shape that proves to have longevity in your wardrobe.
Denim is a great stable fabric but there are definitely things to help making working with it go more smoothly. Here are some tips for sewing with denim:
Use strong closures, like buttons, poppers, or zippers, because denim is a strong material.
Use a fine, strong thread that runs well in a standard sewing machine.
Use needles specially for denim as they have a slightly thicker and longer shaft to make working with the thick fabric easier on your machine and ensure the thread goes through all of the bulk on some areas.
